In 73 AD, the Roman commander Lucius Flavius Silva led the Tenth Legion to Masada, determined to crush the last pocket of resistance. Despite the overwhelming odds, the Jewish zealots defending Masada displayed remarkable ingenuity and perseverance, using the fortress's natural advantages and ingenious traps to hold off the Roman assault for months.

One of the most notable features of the Roman siege was the construction of a huge earthen ramp to gain access to the fortress's walls. This gigantic undertaking by the Roman engineers was a testament to their determination to crush the last Jewish rebellion. However, the Jewish defenders were not idle; they utilized the time to reinforce their defenses and prepare for the inevitable Roman breach.
